Actors - Interested in Reading?
We Cast live on the night from the pool of available actors in attendance, always doing our utmost to serve the writers' work. If you're interested in reading, come on down when the doors open and introduce yourself at the Casting Table. Give us your name, pronouns if you want to share them, and your 3-word casting "hit", and then mingle with your colleagues until the show starts. If we have a role for you, we'll let you know and provide you with a script ASAP so you can have a quick skim. Don't worry about memorizing, actually don’t even try: the Writer’s need to hear every word they wrote & this is a cold read, after all!
Not cast your first time out? Keep coming back! Scripts change every month and so do casting needs! Plus, the better we get to know you, the easier it will be for us to know how to cast you.
Writers - Interested in Submitting?
At the CRS, it’s all about the Writers! We bring both established and up-and-coming Writers out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight. The CRS provides an ongoing community space where artists come to share their work, connect with one another, and create more. It is both a supportive and challenging environment for writers. We program all kinds of writing: excerpts from feature-length plays and screenplays, short films, one-act plays, TV pilots, web series, monologues, radio plays, prose, anything. If it’s good, we want it!
“A culture cannot evolve without powerful, honest storytelling”
-Robert McKee, Story: Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting
Stories illustrate our universally shared experiences. The Cold Reading Series (CRS) is committed to supporting and developing the talents of Vancouver’s story tellers – writers, actors, and musicians alike – by providing a forum where they can present their craft to a live audience and get instant feedback. Meet likeminded artists, writers, directors, actors.
Come stretch your artistic muscles and flex your humanity…join the Evolution!
At the CRS we cast brand new scripts on the spot and watch them fly in front of a live audience. Local musicians are also invited to share their work-in-progress in the “unplugged” musical segment of the evening. Every live reading ends with a party in the Lounge where you can meet up with other artists over a cold beer. The CRS is the place for Vancouver’s artists to meet one another, share their work, and create more.
If you are curious about what local writers and musicians are cooking up, or if you want to check out Vancouver actors, the Cold Reading Series is your place to be.
